In an extraordinary act of generosity, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated the sum of N1 billion through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to support infrastructural development at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. This significant contribution underscores her commitment to enhancing educational facilities and fostering a better learning environment for students.

During a grand commissioning ceremony held at OAU’s Oduduwa Hall, Senator Tinubu inaugurated several key projects that are set to transform the campuses landscape. Among the projects are a 2.7-kilometer road, new hostels, a grand pavilion, and a monument named in her honor. These developments are poised to greatly improve the daily experiences of students, staff, and visitors alike.

In her speech, the First Lady expressed her concerns about the current state of the institution’s environment. She emphasized the importance of regular maintenance to ensure the longevity of these new structures. Drawing comparisons with buildings over 200 years old in developed countries, she highlighted how proper upkeep can preserve the condition and functionality of infrastructure for centuries.
